At the beginning of the 21st century, the Moniz Mascarenhas Gaivão family undertook a profound and careful restoration process of Casa da Azenha, driven by a commitment to preserving not only the architecture of the 18th-century manor house, but also its soul: the antique furniture, the romantic garden, and the intact atmosphere of a traditional Douro farm.
This restoration was conceived as a historical responsibility. Every wall, every stone floor, every piece of wood was, whenever possible, restored with absolute respect for traditional techniques and original materials. More than restoring a house, it was about restoring the dignity accumulated over centuries of family life.
The romantic garden, with its paths, shade, and framing of the vineyards, also received special attention, preserving the landscape composition that has characterized the property since the late 19th century.
The antique furniture has also been carefully restored, allowing guests to enter a home that maintains modern comforts without sacrificing the authentic character of its history.
Casa da Azenha stands out for its preserved identity, reflected in the details and the aesthetic coherence that spans the entire property. Here, nothing is staged; everything is genuine.
